Break out your red in celebration of World Heart Day, September 29th! Claiming 18.6 million lives annually, heart disease and stroke is the leading cause of death worldwide. World Heart Day began as a combined effort from the World Heart Federation and world leaders to reduce non-communicable disease (NCD) mortality rates by 25% by 2025, including cardiovascular disease (CVD) which accounts for nearly half of all NCD deaths.
World Heart Day brings united awareness to CVD, heart disease and stroke, and prevention methods individuals can take to reduce their risks of developing these conditions. Prevention methods that may reduce 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke include:
-Abstaining from tobacco use
-Eating a healthier balanced diet
-Increasing regular physical activity
